What Causes Numbness In Right Arm Radiating Towards Wrist Long After Colon Surgery?

Hello, I am 72 yrs., very healthy, not over weight. Had colon cancer surgery in Aug., 2014. No chemo follow up. Have had weak bicep in right arm for probably a year. Since fall has gotten weaker and for about a month now it is much worse and numb and sometimes runs down to my wrist. Not always painful, just certain positions. Tried lifting weights the other day and it seemed to feel better for 24 hours. Maybe I just need to strengthen my biceps. Any suggestions? Thank you very much.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM team.

Understanding your concern. The numbness in right arm radiating towards wrist long after colon surgery as you describe is very common occurrence which is most commonly related to sleeping position .While sleeping people put there body weight on their arm usually side sleepers ,which leads to compression of nerve in arm and cause numbness . If this event occur occasional and shot lived it will be corrected simply by few changes in sleeping position ,But if it occur very frequently and and is not short lived then you should consult a orthopedician , also rule rule out condition like cervical spondylosis or post surgery complication . Consult surgeon for post surgery complication.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
