What Causes Numbness In Ring, Little Fingers In Left Hand?

Hi my name is Bobbie. For about a month now I have been unable to feel my pinky and ring finger on my left hand. Those two finger along with that side of my hand went numb one day and it hasn t gotten better. If I grab something or make a fist the fingers feel like when your foot falls asleep and you get the pins and needle when you step on it. It can be very painful at times and it s hard for me to feel hot or cold things on that side of my hand. Even small things like drying my hair can be difficult because I cannot tell it it s wet still when I run that hand through it. There in no discoloration. I didn t injure that hand and I so not believe it s something like carpal tunnel syndrome.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms suggest compression / linking of ulnar nerve that runs to supply affected part. This can be at cervical spinal level (spondylitis / at neck, at ulnar notch of hand (lower end of ulnar bone) at elbow or could be carpel tunnel syndrome at wrist. MRI would be the diagnostic investigation for site followed by specific treatment. Please consult an orthopedic surgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
