Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have an under active thyroid. For the last few months my arms become numb if I raise them above my head. Forvthe last couple of days my arms and legs have become a bit dead (like I ve sat cross legged for too long) in the evenings. Could this be a symptom of my thyroid? Or is it likely to be unrelated?
This sounds to me like thoracic outlet syndrome in your case. Thoracic outlet syndrome is a group of disorders that occur when blood vessels or nerves in the space between your collarbone and your first rib (thoracic outlet) are compressed. This can cause pain in your shoulders and neck and numbness in your fingers. Treatment for thoracic outlet syndrome usually involves physical therapy and pain relief measures. Most people improve with these approaches. In some cases, however, your doctor may recommend surgery. Wish you good health. Regards
