What Causes Numbness In The Elbow In An Elderly Person?

My dad 83 has had a triple bypass & has a pacemaker upper & lower. Takes all kinds of Meds. Lately he has been experiencing numbness in his hands I think up to the elbow. It starts on one side & transfers over to the other. I m sure this is not good, what may it be? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since your father has a history of triple bypass surgery & he is feeling numbness in the elbow; he is recommended to get a follow - up treatment done. Get him re-examined, sometimes damage or weakness of the nerves may lead to Peripheral Neuropathy. Get all the Nerve Conduction tests along with Blood tests & Imaging tests done. Get him physically examined, evaluated & treated at the earliest.

Neglect may result in complications like losing control over urine /bowels, inability to walk or speak, facial droop, one-sided weakness, etc. In the meantime give vitamin B6, B12 with folic acid supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
