What Causes Numbness In The Face Along With Severe Headache?

Good Afternoon, yesterday i suffered from a really bad headache. It didn t turn into a migraine, but I did have a headache all day, and when I arrived home last night after work, I took a shower, and went to sleep. This morning when I woke up and started getting ready to go to work, when I brushed my teeth, I couldn t feel my tongue?! It felt really weird. Then, when I washed my face, I didn t feel most of the left side of my face. I can feel, but it s a bit numb, and tingly. I drove myself to work, and my eyes felt and still feel really dry. I m presently at work, but just scheduled an appt. to see my primary care doctor. I m really scared, and am in hopes that it has nothing to do with sufferint a mini stroke or something similar. Please help me understand what it is I might be suffering of? and when I see my doctor, what kind of analysis should I expect to receive? Thank you so much for your assistance, I look forward to your reply soon. Leticia

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to a hemiplegic migraine.

A person with a hemiplegic migraine will experience a temporary weakness on one side of their body as part of their migraine attack.

I recommend using anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day.

If the symptoms continue you should take triptans which are prescribed medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
