What Causes Numbness In The Finger?

I cut my middle finger on my left hand really badly (8 stitches) between the middle knuckle and the base of my finger (when I dropped one of those old style milk bottles) almost two weeks ago and it's still numb and won't bend AT ALL. I'm a musician and this really scares me. When can I expect it to start bending a little again (if ever).
