What Causes Numbness In The Gums After Temporary Crown Placement On The Tooth?

Hi, I recently had a temporary crown placed on my lower right tooth. And upon injection to numb the area it felt like electrical jolt and instantly went numb. It has been two days since i had the injection and it is still numb. The dentist told me the needle must of been near a nerve and it could take a couple of weeks for the feeling to return. But I feel that it must of actually hit the nerve. When I slightly push on the bottom side of my jaw it feels exactly how it did when I received the injection. I'm scared and feel like lip and chin will remain numb forever. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain if you had an electric shock like sensation when the injection was given, it is true that the injection needle has directly hit the nerve leading to severe pain and as there has been needle prick injury to the nerve, therefore there is delayed reversal of sensation on the part of jaw to which the nerve supplies sensations..

Mostly needle prick nerve injuries are reversible and will get improved as gradually there will be nerve repair and regeneration..

I would suggest you to take Vitamin B 12 supplements as it helps in nerve repair and regeneration..
Do alternate warm and cool compresses over the numb areas..
In case even if within next 15 days also you do not find relief consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated..

Any further queries are welcome..

Regards.
