What Causes Numbness In The Hands, Slurred Speech And Blurred Vision In The Elderly?
My 83 yr old mother is having problems with her hand going numb occasionally and it lasts for hours. She can not hold or do anything with that hand. It is accompanied by slurred or slowed speech and blurry vision. She is unable to read, but can watch tv. Her blood sugar is consistently below 200. She is on BP meds, a statin, and a couple other things. She had spinal stenois surgery about 8 weeks ago.
You may also have nerve compression problems which were suspected in your prior consultations which must have aggravated, however at what level it varies and needs clinical evaluation, with nerve conduction studies with or without MRI.
It is very common to get such types of numbness and pain in stress and in a deep anxiety state.
However, to be on the safe side, you should consult a doctor and get your cardiac status checked along with other relevant investigations for the causes as mentioned above.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
