What Causes Numbness In The Teeth Post Injury?

Hello Doctor... I got into a little altercation on Tuesday, and since then have been having numbness in my 2 front teeth. Now I won t lie, I started to feel mild numbness prior to my altercation. I consume A LOT of soft drinks, as I m on the go daily with my job. I m employed in the IT field. But after my altercation, there was also some bruising to my lip as well. After the altercation, my 2 front teeth have really become numb, I can sometimes feel when I bite into food, but for the most part it s a very weird feeling that I m going through right now. I m very nervous because I don t want to lose my teeth. Can you help?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain numbness of teeth after injury can occur due to injury to the nerves that are present inside the tooth and and trauma to the tooth can lead to damage to the nerves and as the nerves are responsible for creation of sensations and damage to the nerves can lead to numbness..

It can also lead to cut off the blood supply of the tooth by rupture to the blood vessels leading to tooth death and the tooth is then called a NON VITAL TOOTH.

In this case the teeth needs to be treated to avoid further complications like infection, swelling and pain.

I would suggest you to consult a dentist and get clinical evaluation and IOPAR(x ray) done to rule out the cause of numbness of teeth..

If the teeth have become non vital then ROOT CANAL TREATMENT followed by antibiotics and painkillers can be the line of treatment..

Many a times the non vital teeth become discoloured, in that case capping of the teeth can be done after root canal treatment..

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
