What Causes Numbness In The Toe Fingers?

Weird question. I painted my toe nails earlier today - and to do that I used tow separators (as I always do). This time, when I took them off, my 2nd tow on my left foot was numb - basically from the tip to midway along the bottom & sides. This was about 7 hours ago. is that strange?
