What Causes Numbness In The Tongue?
28 115lbs 5'2" Female (not Pregnant) 24 hours ago my lips suddenly went numb. I have no known food allergies and didn't eat seafood. Since then I have never gotten back full feeling but it does fluctuate between "pins and needles" and "just got a shot of Novocaine". It is only on the bottom right side of my face. Other Symptoms include a dull ache in my jaw, numbness in right side of tongue, inability to fully open mouth, and a lot of swelling under the right side of my tongue. Also seem to be swallowing more and the glands under right jaw are enlarged. I have no trouble breathing or swelling near my neck. Although in good general health I do have poor dental health, in fact two weeks ago I did have sharp pain in a molar on my lower right side. What do you think this could be and should I go in to the ER now or can I wait until morning?

Hi, Your symptoms more suggetive of dental issues causing the numbness of tongue/lip and submandibular swelling. The impacted tooth / nodal enlargements /caries involving underlying jaw bone osteomyelitis causes the mandibular nerve compression. The neuroproxia due to compression is reversible if we correct the underlying issue identification and removal. Fix a appointment with your dentist and proceed. take care
