What Causes Numbness Ion Lower Lip?

I woke up this morning with a numb lower lip. The sensation has lasted 2 hours so far and if anything worsened. I was very cold last night and drinking alcohol, I don t know if that information is relevant but just thought I d add it. Ive also never had a cold sore. Should I be worried?

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . There can be many reasons for lip numbness . It can be due to allergic reaction or trauma to lip wither physical trauma like injury or from extreme temperature .

Alcohol can also be one of the reason for lip numbness . As alcohol sometimes cause hypoglycemia which leads to lip numbness .

I would suggest you to :-

- Apply lip balm or petroleum jelly all the times until the lip get back to normal.

- Stop drinking alcohol and smoking.

- Ask doctor before taking any medication.

If condition doesn't get better in one day then consult dermatologist for proper examination and to find out exact cause . Doctor may prescribe antihistamine drug or antibiotic course as infection can also cause lip numbness. Get your blood sugar checked.

For now take benadryl or zyrtec.
