Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a numbness sensation on the right side of my face since last sunday. this also includes a burning sensation that comes and goes including my eye and also pain. went to ER this past Monday and they prescribed me methyiprednisolone 4 mg . stated that I could have bellspalsy due to tension and also that I had ear infection. with the symptoms still being here I went to my doctor Thursday, he said I have no infection and took me off of mehtyiprednisolone 4mg and now im taking aurobindo pha substitute for gabapentin. This whole situation is confusing when one doctor states one thing and another states different. I have had this numbness, burning, pain on the full right side of my face for a whole week. is this normal.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it does not seems like bell's palsy and the symptoms are pointing more towards Trigeminal Neuralgia which occurs due to disorders related to trigeminal nerve and its branches as it is the largest cranial nerve and supplies sensations to face.. Trigeminal neuragia can occur due to either any artery compressing over the nerve or any tumour compression, traumatic injury to the nerve or in conditions related to central nervous system like Multiple Sclerosis..
I would suggest you to consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and after a thorough clinical examination and an MRI or CT SCAN can help in confirming the cause and treat you accordingly.. For relieving burning and pain vertain medications that can control neurotic pain like Carbamazipine, gabapantin, baclofen etc can be advised..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
