What Causes Numbness On Skin While Scratching?

When I start to itch my skin feels numb, like I m not even scratching, the itch seems to recede further under my skin. This used to only happen after a body part had fallen asleep, it s been constantly like this for 3 days. Not sure how to explain, what to do, or have any idea where to start looking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the itching is not going to make the area numb, but rather there is already existing numbness from underlying neurologic cause which comes into mental existence via act of itching. Kindly get a neurological assessment done for various forms of sensory evaluation as fine touch, pin prick and others so that better judgment can be curtailed regarding the underlying mechanics of the condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
