What Causes Numbness On The Face When Diagnosed With Hypertension?
Hi, I have chronic idiopathic hypertension with history of 5 strokes (3 major, 2 minor). My normal neuro dr is on vacation for 2 months. My face went numb yesterday & i keep falling down. Also, my headache is pretty severe, meds are not helping. I went to local quickcare & they gave me a shot of toradol. I never presented with face numbness with my strokes, but my speech is not same. What should i do?
Numbness of the face is commonly due to side effect of medicines, allergy or sinusitis. Some medical conditions may also cause numbness like bell's palsy, MS, stroke, migraine or Lyme disease. Numbness caused by allergies & due to the side effects of medicines go away by their own but numbness caused by medical conditions need medical treatment.
Neurological conditions like Shingles, HIV, leprosy have similar symptoms. You are suggested to get clinically assessed by an ENT & if required by a GP. You will have to get Blood & Imaging tests (Nerve conduction tests, nerve biopsy)done to detect the pathology causing the discomfort. To stay on the safer side get a cardiac check up done to rule out any developing CAD(coronary artery disease).
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
