What Causes Numbness On The Left Side Of The Lower Back?

I have a numb area on my back under my left arm the size of a dinner plate. It is surrounded by a very painful burn like sensation. I had ablation surgery of the heart and the machine went out in the middle of a five hour procedure. Could it be a radiation burn?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The symptoms seem to be disc related.

You need to take bed-rest with painkillers and muscle relaxant.

A need for MRI spine may be there if the clinical examination shows any neuro deficit, sensory loss or reflex loss.

Pain modulator drugs like Pregabalin or Amitryptiline or Gabapentin may also be taken.

Avoid stooping forward, weight lifting, squatting.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
General Surgeon
