What Causes Numbness On The Lips, Itchiness On The Sot Palate And Nasal Passage After Eating Banana?


Last night, I ate a very ripe banana and I thought nothing of it, as I eat bananas all of the time. But almost immedeatly, my mouth began to fell cool, my lips became numb and my soft palate and nasal pasages and sinuses began to itch and sting. The back of my throught began to itch and burn in the same way. Before I knew what had happened, my sinuses were pouring out mucus.

I have gone through your query and can understand your health concerns..

As per your query you have got an allergic reaction as all the symptoms clearly denotes that it is an allergic reaction which can be due to either banana and if not due to banana it can be due to some ripening chemical which could have been present over the surface of the banana and as it contacted the hands and mouth it caused allergic reaction..

It can also be due to some other food item that you took before banana at night in meals but as it began immediately after eating banana it is probably due to it..

You should immediately take antihistamine like ALLEGRA 6O MG twice daily for 5 days..
For sinus drainage and congestion you can take nasal sprays to clear congestion..
Drink plenty of fluids and take ample of rest..
Sudafed containing pseudoephadrine can be taken for congestion..
If there is pain and discomfort Ibuprofen can be taken..
Salt water rinses will provide relief..
If still there is not much of relief and if symptoms progress taking Oral Steroids and if needed consulting an emergency room for injectable anti allergics and steroids can be done..
