What Causes Numbness On The Right Thigh?

I started having skin numbness on my right thigh. It feels like I ve applied Ben-gay. It s about a 3 in swath from my mid upper lateral thigh, and goes down to just above my fibular attachment. Comes and goes. Worse when I lay down at night on that side. Any ideas?

Hello, I had seen your medical presentation. I can understand your pain as i had seen many patients with similar complaints in my clinic.
As pain is radiating from upper lateral thigh to below knee, the most probable cause may be sciatica. Your complaint of numbness of thigh is confirming the diagnosis of sciatica.

Sciatica is pain in the lower extremity resulting from irritation of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body and begins in the lumbar spinal cord and extends through the buttock area and ends down in the lower limb. So pain radiates through all these area.

It can be diagnosed by symptoms itself. But it is generally confirmed by MRI scan. Treatment includes
1. pain relieving drugs (acetaminophin and ibuprofen) is first line of treatment
2. physiotherapy (sciatica exercises) helps to some extent
3. keep your legs mostly in stretching position
4. steroid injection in case of severe pain
Hope you will recover soon from all symptoms
