What Causes Numbness On The Tip Of The Ring Finger Post Carpal Tunnel Surgery?

Right now I think only my ring finger TIP on one hand has numbness to 1st knuckle constantly. A year ago what started on middle finger to the thumb was numb. Then little later also pinkie & ring finger. hand specialist said & did surgery for Carpal tunnel syndrome. Finally with time middle finger to thumb seem ok. And I think just past few months pinkie I think ok......Only tip ring finger constantly numb. before surgery got to point all fingers numb from tips to palm constantly. Why still ring finger tip not all better? Last DR visit I had I told of ring finger & pinkie not better. He never said anything of Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. Which I later read about online. Why still ring finger tip not all better?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sometimes, numbness may be experienced by few patients after post carpal tunnel surgery because of the long term compression of the median nerve or when carpal ligaments take time to get completely released. Wait for a couple of days, the numbness may disappear. In the meantime, you are suggested to get connected with a hand physiotherapist. The PT will help to increase the strength & sensation in the fingers, arms & hand with the exercises. The sensations will gradually return to normal. You should report to your surgeon in case of any discomfort & fix a follow up clinical examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
