What Causes Numbness,tingling And Burning Sensation In The Left Hand?

I have been suffering from numbness of my left hand, usually during sleep at night, as well as a tingling and burning sensation in the hand and fingers. This has been around for over a year now, and is increasing by the day. Can you suggest who should I consult - a neurologist or an orthopedic?
