What Causes Occasional Left-sided Chest Pain Which Disappears Upon Physical Activity?

I am 65 Years old man. Occasionally I get pain at the side of my left of chest. When I walk or jogs faster , pain de-appears and reappear may be after two days. It is happening with me since last five to six years. In between I went for stress test number of times but never diagnoses any heart problem. I take blood pressure medicine and go for regular blood pressure check which remains between 80/130. Could you suggest what can be problem of pain in my left side of chest

Hello,

The following are few probable causes of your chest pain:
1) Muscle strain or pull of chest muscle
2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease
3) Injury or broken ribs
4) Fibromyalgia
5) Inflammation of rib cartilage
6) Peptic ulcer

Most probably your pain is due to peptic ulcer. The following are my recommendations:
1) Take tab. Esomeprazole before food for 2 weeks.
2) Take any pain reliever medication like NSAIDS like tab. Ibuprofen or Naproxen if the pain is severe.
3) In case of peptic ulcer disease, avoid NSAIDs; take opioids for pain relief instead, like tab. Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and Tramadol.
4) Continue light exercise daily for at least 30 mins a day.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
