What Causes On And Off Spotting And Heavy Periods?

on june 4th i started having some light spotting and it continued until the 7th and then got a bit heavier and stayed like that ever since. Randomly going light for a day or two then keeps going. Today is the 17th. I am really confused. Waiting times to see a doctor here are minimum 4 hrs. I really dont know what to do. Maybe its my birth control pills? I am not having any cramps or pain like i usually seem to have, its just not stopping.
