What Causes Orange Coloured Mucus In The Ear Of An Infant?
Hi! My 18 month old has been unusually fussy at bedtime for a couple nights.. I didn t think anything about it assuming the time change had something to do with it until I noticed after bath when I clean the water out of her ear that her left ear has a bright yellowish orange color on the tip. its pretty usual I don t generally see more than a very faint yellow or nothing at all. Is there a possibility of a ear infection? Thank you, Courtney
Understanding your concern. As per your query your inafnt have symptoms of orange coloured mucus in the ear which is because of ear infection which sometimes remain persistent and leads to recurrent otitis media and ear pain. It also seems to me that you have eustachian tube dysfunction as per your symptoms. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may examine by otoscopic to check level of infection. Doctor may order throat swab test, endoscopy and allergy test to confirm the diagnosis. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin or penicillin at least for 10 days along with decongestant and anti inflammatory. Taking steam several times a day will also help a lot. You should do warm saline gargles , take steam twice a day and apply warm dry compresses to external ear.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
