What Causes Orange Discoloration On The Nail Of The Index Finger?

Hello! On my left hand, only, and only on my index finger, my fingernail constantly has a dark orange tint to it. I have tried scrubbing it clean; Came back. Shaving off a layer of nail; Came back. There is no sweeping or infection, nothing particularly wrong with that finger. It just looks so strange, and worries me how it keeps coming back. What could cause this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
I understand your concern.
It seems to be dark yellow discoloration looking orange .
THe yellow discoloration of nails could be contact with some yellow material in routine work. ( like polish/paint/ turmeric )/ Nail infection/It can be due to smoking or respiratory problems.
Discoloration of single nail could be from external agents/ smoking / nail infection. The infection that spreads from nail bed / thickened nail can recur after scrubbing/ shaving off upper layer.
Consult a skin specialist for more specific treatment.
Thanks.
