What Causes Overwhelming Emotional Response Towards The Demise Of Strangers?

I have been emotionally upset about deaths of people I do not know, a few weeks a student at my daughters high school took his life on campus, a close friends father passed away last Wed., never met the man or student, then a teacher at my son s elementary school passed away this passed weekend, I knew who he was, but had no contact with him other than a hello or good morning on campus. I found myself in tears, while alone in my home, just completely sad and heart felt hurting. my husband suggested I let my doctor know, she now wants to increase my estrogen, does this sound like the right thing to do, I feel much better, now and want a second opinion.

Hello,

It is a natural human phenomenon to feel grieved on hearing some bad news, unnatural event, disease or death. Sensitive people are affected more but that is normal. Getting cold, insensitive, un- empathetic or rude towards others is not a normal human attitude or nature. Worldwide deaths have increased in recent times and that's not easy for anyone of us to cope with but we have so much responsibilities to do, so much challenges to face during our day-to-day life that we have to absorb all that and walk ahead with time.

Since you are a sensitive person learn to cope with grief, do not let it overtake you. Interact with people, do not avoid social gatherings. Do regular exercising like walking, stretch exercises. Take care of your hygiene. Give yourself time to relax, take at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night. Stay adequately hydrated. You can endeavor into new skill, such as taking a cooking class, gardening, reading good books, singing, learning piano, joining a book club, calling or seeing friends or loved ones who can offer support, making new friends, etc.

Do let grief throw you into depression. Stay away from addictions if any. You can take the help of a mental health provider who specializes in grief. This therapist could suggest several treatment options, like talk therapy, medication, or both. These treatments can help you process the feeling of loss and manage your grief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
