What Causes Pain After Using A Dildo?

I used a dildo during summer and fall of 2009. During the fall I was feeling that my insides were being scrached. When I had my period it was old blood. (I am 50 y/o) I had no sex all this time until August 2010 with a dildo again and It was very painful. Please advise.
