What Causes Pain And Bruise On Elbow Caused After Injury?

Fell over 10 days ago and banged my elbow. Very bruised once happened and days after. Bruise has gone through all the colours over last few days now yellow and mainly faded in colour but still really hurts and aches at end of day. Has a medium size lump which is painful to touch. Should I get it checked out or is it just healing and un dispersed blood ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

Since, the the injury is 10 days old and the pain is still persisting, it would be better to consult your Doctor for a proper clinical examination.
An X ray of the elbow joint will be helpful to rule out any bone fracture or dislocation.

The symptoms as mentioned in your post are due to the impact as well as accumulation of fluid & blood (Hematoma).
The blood cells accumulated are eventually broken down and absorbed in the body. But this is a slow process & takes times to disappear completely.

Till that time, symptomatic relief is obtained by analgesics preparations (like paracetamol), ice compression & adequate rest.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
