General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If you are still experiencing symptoms then you do need to be re evaluated. It is possible that you may have been resistant to the antibiotic given and there was an inadequate response.

Your doctor would likely prescribe a different antibiotic to see if your symptoms would improve.

I hope this helps

  User's Response
Thanks for posting the concern in HCM.
My understanding is you were having acute pharyngitis, for which you were prescribed amoxycillin which could not resolve the infection. Now that it has begun to hurt you, there must have been increase in inflammation and pus. According to history, a retropharyngeal extension of abscess is suspected.
Therefore, you should immediately consult an ENT surgeon for clinical examination and management.
You may need the following investigations/ examination -
Complete blood count, urea, creatinine, electrolytes
Throat swab culture and sensitivity
Laryngoscopic visualisation
Antibiotic may need to be changed based on throat swab C/S report.
Surgical exploration and draining of pus may be needed depending on diagnosis.
Therefore, please consult a local ENT Surgeon as soon as possible.
For any further information, please write back to me directly.
Regards.
