My understanding is you were having
acute pharyngitis, for which you were prescribed
amoxycillin which could not resolve the infection. Now that it has begun to hurt you, there must have been increase in inflammation and pus. According to history, a retropharyngeal extension of
abscess is suspected.
Therefore, you should immediately consult an ENT surgeon for clinical examination and management.
You may need the following investigations/ examination -
Complete blood count, urea,
creatinine, electrolytes
Throat swab culture and sensitivity
Laryngoscopic visualisation
Antibiotic may need to be changed based on throat swab C/S report.
Surgical exploration and draining of pus may be needed depending on diagnosis.
Therefore, please consult a local ENT Surgeon as soon as possible.
