What Causes Pain And Burning Sensation In Lower Right Back And Hip?

I started have pain and burning sensation on skin area on my right lower to mid back that wraps around my hip to my lower front. It has been going on for about 4 hours. I also just noticed it feels like my lower face and cheeks are tingling with almost a numbing feeling. I have prexisting issues in my right side mainly the hip and knee. In my hip I have bone spurs, cysts and osteoarthritis and was recommended a future hip replacement. Could these new symptoms I having be related?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It would be best for you to be seen as soon as you can to determine the cause of the pain that you are experiencing particularly since it is becoming more severe.

Imaging and blood tests would be needed. Imaging would initially consist of an X-ray of the back and blood tests may be a complete blood count and ESR (looks at inflammation in the body). There are different causes of back pain such as:

(1) fracture - unlikely if there is no history of trauma
(2) arthritis or other changes to the bones such as spinal stenosis
(3) due to muscle spasm
(4) cancer
(5) neurological or nerve-related pain pain
(6) prolapsed disc

The physical examination and investigations would determine the cause and allow you to be treated appropriately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
