What Causes Pain And Burning Sensation In The Tongue?

My tounge is burning when i eat a little spicy food. It is from quiet sometime. Now i have noticed the pain in travelling down till the chest. 5 years back i had implants inserted in my teeth and have dentures. Also i had this thyroid problem for which i took NEOMARCAZOLE.

Please advise what could be the cause for this change.

Brief answer: BURNING MOUTH SYNDROME..

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain burning sensation of the tongue can be due to Burning mouth syndrome in which there is burning sensation of mucous membranes of mouth especially tongue and it is commonly caused due to dry mouth..
As you wear dentures it is one of the causative factor for causing dry mouth which leads to burning mouth syndrome..
Although Neomarcazole which contains Carbimazole that is used to treat hyperthroidism is not seen to cause dry mouth although rare incidences are seen where carbimazole causes dry mouth while sore throat and mouth ulcers is a common side effect..

I would suggest you to consult a dentist and get evaluated..
In case of dry mouth Saliva Substitutes containing methylcllulose can be instilled in mouth for lubrication..
Saliva stimulants like lemon drops , sour candies and sugar free chewing gums can stimulate saliva flow..
Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration and preferably cold water as it will help in reducing burning in tongue..
Sucking ice pops can help..
Always remove the dentures before sleeping and if possible reduce the frequency of wearing hours of dentures in day also.

Hope this information helps..
