What Causes Pain And Discomfort In Ears Despite Taking Zevert And EstovonXT?

Hello Doctor,My mother had started with having a discomfort in one of her ears. She was advised zevert, egtovon xt. She took the medicines for 2 weeks, howveer with no comfort. After that, she started having pain in the same ear and one my relatives(who is a doctor) has recommended an ENT. I live out of India and am very concerned for my mother. Can you please enlighten me on the possible cause and treatment.Thanks!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your mother have symptoms of pain and discomfort in ears despite taking Zevert and EstovonXT which could be due to sinusitis, ear wax accumulation, eustachian tube dysfunction, ear infection and certain other systemic pathology. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present. You should take Co Amoxiclav. Maintain proper oral hygiene. You should put Fluticasone ear drops on regular basis. Do warm saline gargles. Avoid pricking ear with any sharp objects. Nasal decongestant sprays would be effective for you. You should take plenty of liquids. You should take steam inhalation. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should go for surgical reconstruction of opening for relieve of pressure. You should go for paranasal sinus X ray.
