What Causes Pain And Hearing Loss After Using An Qtip?
Hello, today i was swimming in my pool and I got water inside my ear. I used a qtip to remove the water from my ear but I pushed it in too far and hurt my ear. Now every time I hiccup, yawn, burp, change elevation, etc. my ear REALLY hurts. I am also afraid I may have damaged my hearing because now when i chew food everything sounds hollow in my ear , almost like an echo. I am currently on 850mg of Amoxocillin every 12 hours for a throat infection I have. I just took some ibuprofen for the pain but I would like to know how long will this last for? and will my hearing return to normal? Is there anything else I can do to treat this? thank you very much

Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query but in your case the symptoms are due to rupture of ear drum due to excess pressure by q tip . In some cases people experiencing temporary hearing loss , but it can be permanent if the damage is severe . Usually doctor prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection , but in severe cases doctor may recommend patching or tympanoplasty . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist doctor may order CT scan or examine with otoscope and treat it accordingly . Foe now apply dry warm compresses to external ear and keep your ear dry . Complete healing may take around two months depending upon the severity .
