What Causes Pain And Itchiness In Incision Area?

Hello! I am a 19 yo female and just had my appendix removed a week ago. Starting from around yesterday when I finally saw that my steri-strips were fallen off, i went ahead and put regular bandages on to just keep them covered up, since I'm afraid some clothing or even myself may end up causing the incision sites (had laparoscopic surgery) to reopen. Ever since then, I've noticed that my incision sites are EXTREMELY itchy, and I'm doing everything I can to NOT scratch the incision sites. The incision that was made on my belly has also been causing me more pain than when I first got out of the hospital. If I sit up for too long in my classes, it's very painful, and when I bend over (gently), it almost feels like something is tugging at my belly button. Are these normal feelings during post-op? I just don't want to freak out about nothing serious! Thanks!!

Hi. The incision site does itch at times during healing. Its normal. But, in your case, its extremely itchy. It could be because of allergy to adhesive materials used in bandages. Its more likely if you can see small bumps too. I think you should stop using this bandage and see if itching improves.
Pain is common after surgery and in laproscopic surgeries, it may be noticed on and off for say 2 weeks. However, if you see some other things like discharge or wound gaping, see your surgeon immediately. hope it answers your queries.
