What Causes Pain And Itching Sensation Around The Anus?

Hi, 1 and half year ago,I was diagnosed with anal fissure. Doc has prescribed me some topical steroid cream(anovate) and i have used it for about 8months.My fissure was healed but i was left with constant pain, itching and pricking sensation around the anus while walking. I was not able to walk normally and everytime i walk for around 5mins,i am developing pricking ,itching and burning sensation around the anus. i dont have any fissure now but my bowel movements are painful.I have even developed stretch marks around the anus.Since its a steroid cream,my doctor advised that it will take some time to recover but i am really scared and dont knw what to do... My main p oint of concern is whether the skin will recover to normal and if so what is the duration of the recovery??.i am not able to walk even 5 min? kindly sagest me what to do

Hi,

I think you suffer from pruritus ani. Pruritus ani is the irritation of the skin at the exit of the rectum, known as the anus, causing the desire to scratch.

The intensity of anal itching increases from moisture, pressure, and rubbing caused by clothing and sitting. There may be some cause.

1) stress, tension, and anxiety
2) Dermatitis
3) Psoriasis
4) Bacterial infection

Streptococci (streptococcal dermatitis) or Corynebacteria minutissimum (erythrasma)

5)Yeast infection especially Candida albicans

6)Pinworms

Certain factors might precipitate or exacerbate pruritus ani like. Frequent stools (diarrhea), Straining at stool (constipation), Scratching, Vigorous use of toilet paper, Scrubbing with soap and water, spicy food, etc

You consult the dermatologist and have proper examination and investigations to find out proper disease.

I would suggest.

- Sitz bath in dettol water
- application of moisturizing cream, a mild steroid cream or antifungal cream as needed
- treatment of the disease
- avoid spicy food
- take high fiber food, cleaner drinking water
- avoid constipation
- take treatment for diarrhea if it is there
- avoid stress and anxiety
- take antihistaminics like levocetirizine

But take treatment under observation of dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
