What Causes Pain And Limping In The Leg After An Injury?
12 yr old fell off bike. Had to be carried to car. Could not put pressure to walk. Iced it and used ibuprofen. Each day improving, so did not go to any doctor. It has been a month and has moments of sharp pain and at times insists on using crutches and or limps a bit, other times dancing about... What are the possible causes? Who should be seen? What steps to take?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
The child should. be taken to an orthopedic surgeon to exclude or confirm any hairline fracture anywhere in the limb or injury/inflammation of the hip joint.
Till then don't allow any walking/movement that causes pain.continue with Ibuprofen.
May need imaging investigation like X-ray or MRI to confirm the cause followed by specific treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
