General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi,
Thnks for writing in to hcm.
Babinski test is done to rule out upper motor neuron disease. It involves keeping the subject's ankle in dorsiflexion position and moving a blunt object on the plantar aspect of the foot. Normal response would be plantar flexion or inwards/ downwards curving of the toes.
However , if there is extension of great toe and fanning out of the other toes , it is called positive for upper motor neuron disease.
It is a reflex and should not be manipulated response.

Dr.Riyanka
