Having had 3 back surgeries a d many exams. I recently had a Babinski test done on my bad back right leg foot ect numbness ect. Had a recent Babinski test rubbing device on bottom of foot . If in normal position your toe should extend if any issue. Dr had me extend toes out when doing test would this alter what test was designed for
hi, Thnks for writing in to hcm. Babinski test is done to rule out upper motor neuron disease. It involves keeping the subject's ankle in dorsiflexion position and moving a blunt object on the plantar aspect of the foot. Normal response would be plantar flexion or inwards/ downwards curving of the toes. However , if there is extension of great toe and fanning out of the other toes , it is called positive for upper motor neuron disease. It is a reflex and should not be manipulated response.
