What Causes Pain And Numbness In The Hands After Taking Haldol Injection?

I received a 100mg injection of Haldol on May 26, 2016. Shortly afterwards I began to experience severe pain and numbness in my hands and toes. Is this a common side effect? My psychiatrist has prescribed Gabapentin. I am currently taking 200 mg three times a day but have noticed very little relief. I am scheduled to see a neurologist tomorrow for nerve testing. Any advise you can give would be helpful.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The injection needs to be given deep intramuscularly of the patient moves while injecting the surrounding tissue may get damaged to cause pain/numbness at the site of injection. If it persists or increases till 2-3 days please report to your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
