What Causes Pain And Numbness In The Lower Back On The Left Side?

I have suddenly developed a pain on my left side in the lower back. Around my hip area A numbness has also come up and the ache is now traveled up my back towards my shoulder. I am now walking around with a limp because of the discomfort. Should i go to the doctor or emergency room?

Hi,

I think you should go to a doctor for further evaluation.

I think you may have a pinched nerve of the spine. This explains the pain and numbness. Pinched nerve may be caused by a herniation of the spinal disk.

An X-ray or MRI may be needed. You can do:
- Take good rest.
- Use Ibuprofen or Naproxen for pain.
- Restrict movement or weight lifting.
