What Causes Pain And Numbness In The Lower Left Knee After Treating A Fracture?

Seven years ago I was hit by a car while riding a bike and broke the large bone in my lower left leg just below the knee. Plate and screws were put in and I could not bend past 30 degrees for 6 weeks. No cartilage left so bone on bone. Recently when standing for an hour or so I have had 3 incidents of my front left thigh feeling numb like it has fas fallen asleep, starting just above the knee, and spreading up. Knee also feels numb. After sitting with feet up goes away usually. No back pain. Minor sciatic issues many years ago, no treatment, short duration. Do I visit my GP or my knee surgeon?

Hello,

As you had the past history of disc degeneration I will advise doing MRI of the lumbar spine as it appears to be a lumbar Radiculopathy symptom.

Doing core stability exercise, spinal muscle strengthening exercises, hip muscle strengthening exercises, static hamstring, static Quadriceps, straight leg raise, forward and side lunges, lateral crunches should help reduce the symptoms and improve the muscle strength and avoid the nerve root compression as well.

Correction of posture and gait training is also an important aspect.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
