What Causes Pain And Pressure In The Chest After Inhaling Clorox Fumes?

Hi! I was cleaning bathroom with Clorox and I had used quite a lot of that. Didn t feel anything back then but had showered after like half an hour, the hot water did end up creating some fumes. Now I ve woken up from sleep because I feel suffocated, theres chest tightness and mild retrosternal pain and my heart rate has slowed down and I think I can smell the clorox still although I didn t really smell it while I was cleaning. Should I go to er?

Hello,

As per your query, you have symptoms of pain and pressure in the chest after inhaling Clorox fumes which is due to mixing in body and release of toxic chlorine gas, which caused poisoning and highly injurious.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you breathe in fresh air. You should flush face with lots of water for at least 15 minutes and drink plenty of water.

Visit physician immediately to seek medical helps sometimes these poisoning symptoms could be severe. Administration of humidified oxygenated bronchodilators and airway management is the only antidote for Clorox fumes poisoning.
