What Causes Pain And Redness Around Penis?
Hi doctor i have some redness around my penis head and it is getting a little painful even when i pour some water on it. I cant really pull back my foreskin unless it is flaccid and yet i have difficulty doing it and i have a hard time pulling it back. but now the redness has been there for 3 days and it is getting painful.

Hi,
Balanitis is an inflammation of glans or head of the penis due to infection or another causes. With balanitis, the head of penis is usually red, swollen, itchy and sore. Other symptoms can include like difficulty pulling back the foreskin, pain when micturition, a thick discharge may come under foreskin, an unpleasant odour etc. Causes of balanitis such as not washing penis properly, thrush or fungal infection, phimosis or very tight foreskin, sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia or gonorrhea, allergies or irritants like soap, condoms etc; DM etc. A mild steroid cream like hydrocortisone, antifungal cream like clotrimazole and antibiotics are the treatment of choice here. If medications haven't helped, circumcision may be considered. Some measures or steps should be taken for getting rid of balanitis like gently pull back foreskin and wash the area with warm water, wash penis every day, dry gently after washing, wash hands before touching penis, condoms for sensitive skin should be chosen etc.
