What Causes Pain And Ripping Sound In The Back Of Neck?

I woke up by a ripping sound on the back of my neck base of skull ,got up and turned left and the noise was loud and fast ripping sound right after I stated to get a horrible pain and all day the pain won t go away and I can t turn my neck move my right arm in some directions .... What can this be ? What can I do? Pain is immense . ..

I really appreciate your concern, such sound is common phenomenon and it could be same as the crackling of knuckle and why this is happening is very unclear but this not harmful if happening in the neck without the clinical symptom but if having some clinical symptoms then it need to be investigated for spondylosis, or spinal degenerative disease, hope this information helps take care and have a nice day.
