What Causes Pain And Severe Tightness On Scalp?

The skin of my scalp is extremely tight and painful. Cold packs do seem to relieve the pain temporarily, as does gabapentin - or maybe I just don t notice because I am asleep. Both strategies severely limit my ability to function and enjoy life. I have been diagnosed in previous years with autoimmune disease: dermatomyositis and lupus. What to do?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

It may cause itching and scaling of the scalp. It may not cause tightness in the head. Tension headache or migrane headache may cause tightness in the head. Use anxiolytics like alprazolam 0.25mg at night. Use yoga and meditation for stress relief. Antidepressants may also give some relief. If no improvement please consult with your neuro-physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
