What Causes Pain And Slight Bleeding From Ear After Cleaning?

Hello doctor, i was cleaning my ear with cotton bud and suddenly it went hit my eardrum and started getting severe pain for some minutes then i inserted again the cotton bud slowly to check whether there's blood and the cotton bud got little blood on it, but its still hurting a bit. Does it torn my eardrum? should i really see a doctor? i'm worried a bit.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that while cleaning the eardrum you went a bit too deep leading to injury to the eardrum and there is a possibility that you have perforated the eardrum leading to bleeding and pain..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Otoscopic examination of ears can help in diagnosis and treatment be planned accordingly..
You can be advised to take a course of antibiotics like Augmentin, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like oral phenylephrine and nasal spray like Xylometazoline..
In case if the perforation is small, the medications will relieve it..
In case of large perforation, that does not heal with medications need to be surgically treated..
You can be advised to get tympanoplasty done that is surgical repairing of ear drum..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
