What Causes Pain And Soreness Along With Swelling In The Jaw?
i have a very sore jaw, i hurt it 3 days ago. i do not have any symptoms of a virus besides for swelling on my jaw (one side of my face). i did hit my face in hockey on thursday a couple hours before it got sore. it has not stopped swelling since then. it is getting more swollen and more tender every day (no swelling inside mouth). i do not know if hitting my face on thursday was a coincidence or if that is the cause of this. is this a virus (mumps) or is it possibly a fractured jaw?
Pain is increased by eating/ chewing (not swallowing), talking or jumping, opening mouth)
As per your complain it does not look like a virus, rather it is pointing towards post traumatic swelling caused by hitting the jaw..
It can be due to causes like multiple teeth fracture, jaw fracture, joint joint dislocation etc..
For confirmation an x ray known as Panoramic x ray has to be done in which the entire jaw, jaw joint and teeth will be evaluated..
Treatment will depend upon the exact cause..
As of now you can take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen along with Serratiopeptidases.. Take muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone.. You should do cool compresses over the swelling.. Take soft diet and avoid excessive mouth opening..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
