Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain And Stiffness In The Arms After Administering Anesthesia?
I had my distal radial fracture reduction by 4 metal pins, had general anesthesia as well as a block on my whole arm. I experienced severe pain after anesthesia and suffered for three days until I got an appointment after weekend. One week ago otho surgeon removed the pins and now I cannot rotate my hand. I also have stiffness in my fingers, wrist and the whole palm of my hand. I have limited rotation, flexion, twisting and extension of the whole arm, which I suspect has been caused by the nerve block on my arm. My hand and wrist are still inflamed and swollen despite elevation and ice. I have a great fear this will be a permanent condition if I don t get proper medical care on this. Please give me your suggestions.
"As" per your query is concerned it is normal after every surgical procedure and it will not be permanent at all and you will restore your normal function after few days. Only do hot compression to improve blood circulation to the area which will activate nerve. Do movement of arms several times a day. Do a clinical check up by your operating doctor.
Hope that helps
