What Causes Pain And Swelling Below The Jawline?

Last night about 11 pm i was chewing on my right back teeth and when i swallowed - i had a fullness, slightly painful and weirdness appear right below my jawline - upper neck on the right side - not sure what happened and did a slight computer search and told myself maybe a gland or lymph node - i do not have any cold symptoms. There was an instant swelling of about the size of a walnut. I put an ice pack on my neck and laid down. I was able to sleep for about 7 hours and in the morning - it is swollen - not as much of a ball but just feels weird - what could be going on?

Dentist 's  Response
Hi,

It looks like swelling of the salivary gland only and as it appeared after eating it is probably due to obstruction of the duct of the salivary gland due to any foreign body or formation of crystalline stone.

So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like X-ray can help in diagnosis.

For now, chew sugar-free chewing gum and suck lemon drops as the obstruction as at times flush out with the flow of saliva.

Hope I have answered your query. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.
