What Causes Pain And Swelling In Ankle After Taking Cipro And Flagyl?

I am 55 year old female. I was given cipro and flagyl for diverticulitis. I have taken these before with no problems. However, after 3 days I noticed pain and swelling in my left ankle. I just read that it could be a dangerous side effect of the cipro. What should I do other than stopping the cipro? Do I need immediate attention, and should I continue with the flagyl?

Hi,

Yes, ciprofloxacin has the typical side effect of tendon damage. You can continue flagyl. For tendon evaluation, you need to visit an orthopedic surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
