What Causes Pain And Swelling In Eyes And Face After An Injury?

5 nights ago there was an accident that occured where I ended up having 7 solid steel racks that were pilled 40-60 feet high, one ontop of the next, fall ontop of me, each racks weighs in at about 60 pounds. This accident rendered me unconcious breifly. It also left me with bruising to my head along with a 1 inch 1/2 gash to my skull. Followed by 2 fat purple lips. The cut on my headt poured blood for about 2 minutes then stoped completly. I never went to seek medical attention regardless of the severity of the accident and fact that I should have gotten stiches for the cut on my head. I am a 23 year old woman, I weigh 100 pounds at best. Yesterday morning I started to feel pain in my right eye, it is extremly tender and hurts to blink, touch, wipe or even run under water..today I realized it is starting to swell, it in inflamed and hotter then the rest of my face..is this a sign of something potentially serious.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you had an accident and are now are experiencing pain and swelling in your eyes and body you are suggested to visit ER urgently. You need to get clinically examined and get urgent medical support. To help faster healing and relieve pain, you need analgesics and antibiotics.

Your treating doctor may need to give you stitches and injection of tetanus for better healing. You are suggested to get your eyes checked by an Eye specialist to detect if their is any vision loss or internal trauma so that your treatment can be started at the earliest. In the meantime, you can take Combiflam, one SOS after food to ease pain and swelling. Stay well hydrated. Avoid addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
