What Causes Pain And Swelling In Feet And Legs While Suffering From COPD?

I am a 65 year old male. I drink a lot of beer. I have COPD. My feet and legs are swelling and my feet are very painful as if scorpions are biteing me all over them. This type of pain is traveling up to my calves. What could be causing this type of pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
From the description you are giving, it appears that you could be suffering from 'Morgellons disease'. It is a delusional disorder in which people have a belief that they are infested with disease-causing agents such as insects, parasites, hairs or fibers, while in reality no such things are present. It is also called 'delusional parasitosis'.
Also, since you state that you are alcoholic, you could be suffering from Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) and Vitamin B12 deficiency as well. Kindly take multi-vitamin capsules to overcome the deficiency.
Hence, your condition needs to be treated by prescription of one of antipsychotic drugs which is aimed at treating anxiety, depression or any other condition that affects thinking, moods or behaviour.
Swelling of the feet also could be alcohol induced. Kindly get your blood pressure checked. In case you are found hypertensive, you need to get treated accordingly.
You need to quit alcohol intake immediately to maintain good health.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
